Exhibit Opens in Houston to Commemorate 60th Anniversary of Hungarian Revolution of 1956November 30, 2016 – Houston, Texas – “1956 HUNGARIAN FREEDOM FIGHT” a special photo exhibit, opened in Houston on the campus of University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) Thursday, November 30. The photo exhibit commemorates and celebrates the 1956 Revolution during this special anniversary year. More than 125 people joined in the commemoration and celebration, including a number of civic leaders from greater Houston.Hungarian Honorary Consul General, Phillip Aronoff, introduced special guest from Hungary, Deputy Minister Laszlo Szabo, who stressed and encouraged the importance of a growing relationship between Hungary and the United States and even more specifically, Hungary and Houston, while highlighting the many similarities the two countries share. Council Member At-Large, Jack Christie, presented Szabo with a Mayoral Proclamation. Richard Graber, Director of the Hungarian American Cultural Association of Houston, invited guests to view the exhibit which includes photos never seen by the public. Andrea Lauer Rice (Atlanta), Beth Secor (UHD) and Richard Graber curated the exhibit. Graber is planning additional programming with UHD in the form of a panel discussion later in January with individuals who will share their personal stories around the events of 1956. The exhibit runs through January 20, 2017:  8 am to 9 pm – Monday through Friday   A portion of the exhibit was made possible by a grant from The Hungary Initiatives Foundation.
