Dr. Frank D. Peto

Obituary

 
DR. FRANK D. PETO passed away July 11, 2008 in Houston, Texas. Dr. Peto was a philosopher, professor, lecturer, author, husband, father and brother. He was born in 1912 in Szeged, Hungary. Dr. Peto received a post doctorate philosophical degree from Université Sorbornne, France. Upon completion of his studies, he joined the French army to fight Hitler.

After WW2, he became the Secretary General of the Freedom Party in southern Hungary to fight communism. He escaped Hungary in 1948 and immigrated to the USA in 1950, eventually settling in Houston, Texas. Dr. Peto was a former professor at Texas Southern University. Prior to his professorship, he taught at Lamar High School. Since retiring, Dr. Peto has lectured in Hungary and the USA. He has written three books and founded the Sophocracy philosophical movement. He was a founding member of the Hungarian American Cultural Association in the 1950’s.

He is survived by his wife, Ulrike, his children Lel, Melinda, and Miranda, his son-in-law, Scott Delmonico, his grandchildren Marie Moers, Alex Delmonico, Julien Delmonico, and Tamas Delmonico and his sister Lilly Parducz. The memorial service and reception will be held Thursday, July 17, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Bradshaw Carter Memorial & Funeral Services, 1734 West Alabama Street, Houston, Texas, (713) 521-0066.
